I’ve just finished participating in a promotion to give away free books, I put A Christmas Tale up for free copies, since it’s after Christmas and sales for that one are likely to lull until next holiday season.
It’s still on Instafreebie until 6th February if you missed it and want a copy.
Now, a lot of authors sign up for this site to get readers on their mailing list. Mailing lists are a good thing, as long as the recipient is interested in getting emails from the author.
I don’t have a Mailchimp account or any other service. Why? Because I’ve requested free books from these promotion services and found myself inundated with blog posts from far too many authors, each of them assuming you’re going to read their free book right away and either asking for feedback or pushing sales of the next book in a series.
I don’t want to put that kind of pressure on my readers. Many might have grabbed my Christmas book while it was free and decided to save it until next Christmas to read it. That’s fine with me.
If you look down the left side of my blog page, there is a sign-up box to follow this blog. If you want to know about my new releases and anything else I might write about here, please do sign up. I don’t post all that often so when I do, it should be about something relevant to people who want to read my books.
I’ve found myself unsubscribing from mailing lists after one or two posts because these email marketing posts clog my inbox and are far too sales oriented to stay in my comfort zone. I don’t care what the common author marketing advice says, I don’t want anyone to want to unsubscribe from me. It creates a negative impression.
What I would like to get out of these promotions is more reviews. Especially on Amazon. My publisher gave away twenty copies of one of my books on the LibraryThing early reviewer page and not one of them left a review on Amazon. Only three left one on LibraryThing.
So if you want to thank me for a free book or for an enjoyable read, please, leave a review on Amazon. I won’t answer back to criticism, I promise! It’s for other readers after all. I will read it and learn from it, but I will always be grateful for the review, good, bad, or indifferent. So far the reviews have been good overall.
